It Takes 21 Days To Break A Bad Habit
Why 21 days? Experts say it takes at least 21 days to ensure behavior change. Pick a day to start and mark your calendar for 21 days out. Make a commitment that you will follow your plan for 21 days. If you would like, email me your start and end date so we can do a check in!
My healthy habit is to incorporate exercise into my daily routine. For 21 days I will work out for at least 20 minutes even on my off days. I typically workout 3-4 days a week for at least 1 hour but I no longer want this to be just a portion of my week. This could be 20 minutes of jumping jacks, burpees or following some of these workout routines at http://www.blogilates.com/bikini-blaster-series . Exercise will become a habit just like brushing my teeth…. I would never skip that so why skip something else that is good for me?!
-Write down your goal. There is some type of commitment magic that happens when you put something in writing. Also list the reasons why you want this change.
- Have a positive outlook on the new habit or old habit you are trying to kick.
- Set reminders for yourself. If your goal is like mine, set a reminder in your phone for the days that you normally wouldn’t workout. If your goal is to drink more water, set baby goals thoughtful the day (finishing your full bottle of water by a certain time or a certain amount before a meal) and always have water in front of you.
- Tell your friends! They will be supportive and might even join you!
- Baby steps… Try developing one habit at a time. It’s tough enough so you are more likely to succeed if you have one focus. Add another once yours is truly a habit!
